Bible Study - Get Courage & Compassion.  Have No Fear

Our compassion for the lost needs to override our fears of witnessing.  We should not take witnessing lightly.  It is a matter of life and death. When I had that Vision from the Lord, the thing that bothered me the most is that the Christians out there in the deep were praying and praying for Revival to happen, but they were not doing all that is necessary for Revival to come forth.  They were not witnessing to the lost.  The did not go to the shore to bring those that were unbelievers into the waters of salvation.  They just left them standing on the shore. They were having a great time in intercessory prayer out in the deep.  They were dancing and laughing in the spirit and acting super spiritual, but they were not focused on the most spiritual thing of all - which is fulfilling the Great Commission.   They were not focused on what they could do to win the lost.  Jesus suffered greatly in shedding His blood and dying on the cross four our sins so that people could receive Him as Lord and Savior.  In exchange for His great sacrifice, He expects all of His followers to sacrifice as well and do whatever they can to fulfill the Great Commission.

The two main hindrances to witnessing are based on fear.  First, the fear of talking to people.  Secondly, not knowing what to say.

The Lord says in Isaiah 41:10:  “Fear not, for I Am with you.  Be not dismayed, for I Am your God.  I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

In  2 Timothy 1:7 Paul said to Timothy: “Stir up the gift of God…for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”   So fear is a demonic spirit.

For the sake of those heading towards hell, we need to pray and take authority over that spirit of fear through binding the fear of man in the name of Jesus Christ. Then loose upon yourself the power of God, the love of God and a sound mind. Reading the train tracts will really help you “to have a sound mind” in knowing what to say when witnessing to get you started..

If you can watch a scary movie, go on a roller coaster, drive on a fast paced California highway, or even get into a car with a 15 year old that just got their driver’s permit, then you have the courage to witness to the lost.  Keep in mind that fear comes from the enemy to keep you from witnessing.   The devil wants everyone to go to hell.

The Bible says in Proverbs  28:1 that the righteous are as bold as a lion.  It does not say that the extroverts are bold.  It says the righteous are bold.  We need to stir up this boldness because Jesus is coming soon. So, if you are truly right with God, you will be bold and witness.

Many people think: “Well, we must live right before them and that shows a good example and a Christ-like life” and they never open their mouths to witness to anyone.  Yes, that is true, we do need to live right before people, but we need to go to a higher level.  We need to live right before people AND speak words of life into their hearts and into their situations with a word from the Lord or a comforting, encouraging scripture from the Word of God!   The Sadducees and the Pharisees lived right before the people and kept the Law and totally missed Jesus and what salvation was really all about.

Other Christians may even fool themselves thinking, “Well, I wasn’t led to witness to that person.”   Most of the time that is the devil trying to get you to shut your mouth.  You don’t need to be led to witness to someone because the Great Commission already commands you to do so.  You should witness to every person who comes into your life who needs salvation.  We have all been called to be ministers of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:18).   Paul told Timothy, who was more like a pastor,  “to do the work of an evangelist” (2 Tim. 4:5).   In order to do the work of an evangelist, we must witness and speak the truth in love to them that will set them free.

Many times we don’t have compassion for the lost because we are anxious in our thoughts thinking about the problems in our own lives.  I know, I have been there, but we need to cast our cares upon the Lord trusting Him to take care of them, so we can have a heart of compassion to care for others around us.  When you are standing in line at the store (or any line) that is the time when you just need to cast those anxious cares and have compassion for the person in front of you or behind you in line.  Are they going to heaven?  You could say:  “You know as I wait here in line it makes me feel so tired and that reminds me of this scripture:  “Those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”   Then listen to how they respond and take it from there.

The Bible says in John 14:15 Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep my commandments.”    John 15:14 Jesus said,  “You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.”  His commandments is to fulfill the Great Commission was not an option, but a command.  In Mark 16:15 And Jesus said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature, He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  And these signs will follow those who believe:  In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”.

It says in Jude 22  “Keep yourselves in the love of God…and on some have compassion, making a distinction, but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”

He was saying here that most of the time we witness through our compassion and kindness, but to others we witness as if we were snatching them from eternal fire.  To hate the garment defiled by the sin means that we hate the sin, but when we witness we must love the sinner.
